In April we promote awareness, acceptance, and appreciation of our Autistic friends and family members. Looking for a book to read about Autism? We've got some great books about Autism for kids of all ages, Kindergarten through 5th grade, right here in the Hamilton Library.

Congratulations to Ms. Swichtenberg's class for winning the door decoration contest! The kids worked so hard to create a world of pure imagination outside of Room 2.
To celebrate the end of Project Z the third graders used all of their MeL research skills to solve puzzles, find clues, and unlock locks Escape Room style! It was so fun to watch the kids work together - "Team work makes the dream work!"
It was so fun to see teachers and students dressed up like book characters today! I was Beatrice Zinker the Upsidedown Thinker!
This week I had the incredible privilege to attend the MACUL conference in Grand Rapids. I learned all about new and best practices for teaching with technology. My big takeaway from the conference is that although technology is always changing and growing, our teachers and students in Troy are really on top of that! We're doing amazing things in our schools and libraries. I did discover a few new things and I am excited to bring my learning back to my staff and students. I attended sessions on Apple technology, AI, Canva, gamification, problem solving, and elementary makerspaces, just to name a few. I also got to play with some really fun new gadgets.
One of our favorite March is Reading Month Traditions is "teacher swap" where each classroom briefly gets a new teacher for a read aloud story. The kids love seeing a new face and the teachers get to know kids outside of their classroom, or see some familiar faces from years past. Here are the photos from this year's Teacher Swap and you can see for yourself how much fun they were having! 3rd graders had a blast creating their own zoo right here in the Hamilton makerspace. Students were spilt up into teams with different jobs. All students had to use Michigan eLibrary to research their team's animal first and take sketchnotes to show their learning. Then they got to build either an informational sign, a habitat box, food, or an enrichment toy for their animal. They used all materials we had in our makerspace, so our project was "eco-friendly" as we found ways to reuse existing materials instead of buying new things. When finished, the animals came from the Detroit Zoo to enjoy their new habitats. Can you spot the Jellyfish, Octopus, Arctic Fox, African Penguin, Sloth and Snowy Owl? They love their new homes! Many of our Hamilton students celebrate Ramadan and Eid. Whether you celebrate, or are looking to learn more about these holidays, you can check out and enjoy some of these books from Hamilton to learn more about Ramadan and Eid.
Our spring book fair was a great success! Thank you so much to everyone who participated and helped out to make it another wonderful event. We raised over $2,000 for the library! I can't wait to get some new books ordered. What books would you like to see in our library collection?
It's not every year you get a February 29th. In fact, it's every 4 years! We celebrated this Leap Day by leaping right into our March is Reading Month theme: "Books Feed Your Mind" with a special visit from author Alice B. McGinty. Alice shared her book Pancakes to Parathas: Breakfast Around the World. The kids got to play a guessing game to figure out where the different breakfasts came from. I was so impressed by our worldly Hamilton Hawks who were able to figure out different countries around the world with just a few word and picture clues. It is always fun to be visited by an author or illustrator, but Alice made her visit extra special by sharing her joy and enthusiasm for reading and writing.
