This week and last week Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students read the book Thankful by Elaine Vickers and Samantha Cotterill. We enjoyed the beautifully crafted pictures and were inspired by the main character's Thankful Chain - so we made our own! Check out this long list of things that Hamiltons students are feeling thankful for. I am feeling so thankful for my students & staff at Hamilton... but most of all I am thankful for the parent volunteers who help me check books in and out, and get books back on the shelves every single school day. So far this year Hamilton students have checked out 8,558 books! Hamilton students love to read and for that, I am thankful.

After our successful book fair, we raised $2800 for new library books! The students have been sharing with me their requests and wishes for the library and the first two boxes of new books just arrived this week. I can't wait to get them processed and ready to check out. Here's a sneak peek at some of the beautiful new books that just arrived.
Happy Diwali, to the many Hamilton students and families that celebrate! We have some really cute books in the library to share the story of Diwali with all.
3rd graders learned about systems this week. We defined a system as a group of parts and/or people working together. We played a game called: "Is it a system?" which lead to some very lively debates! Then we did our first attempt at mapping a system, by drawing all the people and parts, and their interactions in the Hamilton library. Next week we'll continue to look at systems at school, which will lead us to a very fun project in Minecraft... stay tuned for more!I love this STEAM activity more and more with every year. 4th graders finished up their keychain project this week by painting their 3D printed keychains with oil-based paint pens. The students designed their keychains from basic shapes and drawings in TinkerCad. Then we watched and waited patiently as our 3D printers worked all day long for two weeks to get all of the keychains printed. Finally, this week we added the finishing touches of a custom paint job. This project is a great example of the power of STEAM in education. Next week we'll be writing about this memorable making experience in our WordPress blogs.
