We don't have to wait until June to celebrate fathers. Here are two of my favorite new books that celebrate the relationship between children and their dads.
Brian Lies has done it again. He's one of my favorite author/illustrators because his pictures are just gorgeous and depict so much feeling and energy. Gator Dad follows a gator family of Dad and three little hatchlings as they go through their hectic, fun day. It is not without mishaps, but the love that Dad feels for his kids and the joy the kids feel when they are with him jumps right off the page.
"Max and his dad love their time together. Weekends mean pancakes, pizza, spy games, dog walking, school projects, and interesting neighbors! Every weekend brings a small adventure as third-grader Max gets to know his dad's new neighborhood - and learns some new ways of thinking about home." One of our own Hamilton Hawks bought a copy of this book for the Birthday Book Club - so keep an eye out for his birthday celebration in a few weeks!
